Alooooo spring? Yooooohoooo?

Day 12 and the counters are in…

I am VERY pleased with how they look. We went with Cambria Quartz in Welshpool Black, I chose this company mostly on their green practices and the fact that they are 100% made in the USA.

Anyway, I am so looking forward to getting this kitchen finished, sooooo close but the contractor isn’t coming back until Tuesday. In the meantime we do have water, a dishwasher and stove all functioning, things I won’t take for granted anytime soon. Here are some more shots, the counter is very hard to accurately photograph, but it isn’t too far off.
Take a gander at my new workspace…

One slab of heaven!

Yes, that is snow outside. Spring who?
Would you like a bucket of death?

I think using this caustic shit negated any attempts I made at keeping this remodel “green”.
I’ll be back on Tuesday, my site will be down throughout the weekend for some big server move, they best not zap my site.
There is not a whole lot going on in the kitchen. Period. Just waiting for that coveted phone call for the counter install. In the meantime we watercolored some eggs but neglected to hide them, and undoubtedly will forget to eat them, but they came out pretty…

The countertop template happened yesterday. He complimented the contractors work a few times, which made me feel happy about our choice. Mr. Template man said the turn around right now for counters is 7-10 days, possibly sooner. His phone rang while he was here and it was the shop telling him a template he submitted the previous day was finished, how sweet would that be if this counter was finished next week. So here’s hoping. I am going back to IKEA tomorrow, I really hope everything is in stock, I might cry if it isn’t. Basically we are at a standstill, I’ll be back when something exciting happens. Or I could do a whole post on heating up a frozen box of Macaroni and Cheese….mmmmm.
Completely random picture because I hate posts with no visual content…

This is an ancient picture of our cat Atticus, how old is it? I scanned this picture because it was taken with film. Remember film?
Today the pantry and cleaning closet went in and most of the drawers. There was a lot of behind the scenes stuff today so you might not notice a huge difference.
My flash batteries were dying so the light is weird in these shots…

The pantry and cleaning closet…

Look at the pantry drawers! Sweet sweet possibilities…
I have to go back to IKEA this weekend to get all the missing pieces unfortunately. So it looks like it will still be awhile until I can get back into the kitchen. The counter template happens tomorrow so I should have a better idea when things will move forward. And we still have the pesky floor matching to contend with.

All in all it’s going well. I just can’t wait!
Remember this?

it’s now this…

And this?

it’s now this…

I am giddy with excitement! Functionality will be MIIIINE!
Here is a close-up of the sink, I am super happy with the choice.

The sink is made by Lavello, and it’s lovely.
They made much progress today, but there is still much to do. All the interior fittings, trim, fronts, pantries and the little issue with the floor I will talk more about tomorrow. I was informed I will have to go to IKEA again this weekend, and most likely once more after that. Not the best news, but I shouldn’t complain too much, I am getting a new kitchen.
I figured you were all on the edge of your seats wondering what in the hell we are doing for a temporary kitchen, calm down already, I took a picture…

This WAS our dining room and that is the refrigerator you see in the foreground. There is the lovely chandelier again (grumble). So far it isn’t too awful, I am doing dishes in the bathroom sink (silverware and glasses), we are killing the earth with paper plates and bowls so that is helpful. I was prepared to lose my stove in this remodel, but the nice contractor kept it hooked up…yay!
More tomorrow, and if you have any questions feel free to ask.
So way back in September I made mention that we were thinking about an IKEA kitchen, that idea has come to fruition….

…one whole IKEA kitchen that I painstakingly pulled off the shelves myself, we saved a butt load of money but if I did it again I would probably pay someone else to do it because, SUCK.
They tore the old crappy cabinets out this morning. Part of processes like this sort of suck the love you have for your home right out of your soul…like when you find out the GIANT picture window in your living room (that your children play near) was held in by 3 nails, or when you find out that the sheet rock was haphazardly cut making it fall into the wall but no one bothered to fix it, that the sheet rock the builders used was the cheapest they could find (possibly bought on the black market), or that your kitchen floor is so warped that you could charge admission and call your house the 2nd Mystery Spot. But you know, whatever, we’re getting a new flippin’ kitchen and me? HAPPY!

Notice that “chandelier” in the background? My husband cracked his head on the glass BEFORE Christmas and it took the brunt of the collision. I have been trying to get a replacement part since….sigh. I thought it deserved an explanation so you didn’t think I randomly put fabric and big red bows on everything. Here’s another shot of the demo…

Up there on the left used to be the ridiculous pantry that faced the kitchen table, no longer. Good riddance.

No more sink, all gone. The countertop template is on Thursday, I am really hoping we hit them at a good time and we don’t have to wait 3 weeks for a countertop because that will make me very sad.
I’ll be back with more on the remodel tomorrow.
